I was researching into my mother's side of the family - Timperley, and found your website.
My mother's father, my grandfather, has a very uncertain history. He would be well into
his nineties, if he was still alive, and his name was Timothy. Along with my grandmother,
my mother and her brother emigrated to Australia around 50 years ago and from there the
history becomes very uncertain. Here are a few family details: My grandfather: Timothy
Timperley, My grandmother: Ivy Timperley, My Mother: Jane Crisp (originally Jane
Timperley) My Uncle: John Timperley. Jon Crisp joncrispy(at)hotmail.com

My name is Eileen Timperley and I live in Brisbane, Australia. I have been searching my
family (Fogarty) and have come to a stop, so have decided to look at my husbands family.
He is Allan Timperley born in Hulme, Manchester. His father was Leonard Timperley and from
what I understand from my mother in law, his father Thomas had a falling out with his
family and had no contact with them, so of course no one knows where this branch of the
family originated. My inlaws have both passed away, but were always reluctant to discuss
it when they were alive. All I know is that Thomas Timperley married Pheobie Davies of
Davis. Leonard was born 1911, the second son, and Pheobie passed away when he was young,
his father remarried. Do you know of any branch of the family that moved to Manchester, or
if any other Timperley from Manchester is researching, I would appreciate any info, the
IGI seems to have a lot of Timperleys and I do not know which one to pick. Thank you

My name is Ignacio Viel-Temperley. I was very happy to see your page. I am originally from
Argentina, and I would like to confirm the information regarding the origin of a city
named after one of them who was a railway engineer. The story as far as I know it, told
from my fathers, was that Temperley was one of the wealthiest man in Argentina. He had so
much land that it included part of today's Buenos Aires. When the railroad was starting to
develop in Argentina, he gave it to them. As part of the railroad's grattitude, they named
a station after him, called "Temperley". Afterwards, Temperley became a
district, not exactly a city (Buenos Aires is composed of Districts, Temperley being one
of them). Later on a Temperley married a Viel, known as Viel-Temperley. Being that they
were both high society families with wealth, the surname was known as Viel-Temperley, and
it is still a very respected name in Argentina. The story goes that the land was divided
and some was gambled. Nothing of the wealth is left today. In Argentina we even have a
second division football (soccer) team that had been at one time a first division team.

After reading the messages on the Timperley site I felt that some thing was lacking. A
person who lived in Timperley!!!. I can confirm that timperley is a great place that is
very laid back and sleepy. I too was interested in its history. One of its better points
its thriving scout movement that is well worth a look at if you fancy that type of thing.

My name is Richard Neil Timperley and I live in the village of Brindley, which is 4 miles
from Nantwich in Cheshire, England. My father, Arthur Hough Timperley was the second of 12
Children born to Percy Timperley, who was Mayor of Crewe in 1932 and the founder President
of the Rotary Club of Crewe in the same year. His father was killed in an accident in the
railway works at Crewe at the end of the last century and I understand that he originated
from the Warrington area. My father carried out a significant amount of research into the
family tree before he died in 1989. Unfortunately, I am not sure where his records are,
although I hope that my sister has them stored safely. I will attempt to find them and
construct our family tree to go on your website, which is very impressive. I had no idea
there were so many Timperleys in the world. However, reading the various entries convinces
me that our family was originally linked to the village of Timperley in North Cheshire,
which is now just a part of the sprawling mass of Manchester. Regards and best wishes,

Hi there!! I was messing around on my computer today and decided to look up my name. Boy
was I surprised to find so much information on it. My name is Emily Timperley. My father
is Gary Gene Timperley. I am from Sioux Falls, SD. Just wanted to say how much it
intrigued me. I have always wanted to find out more about my family history.. but I'm not
sure which (if any) of these names on the page are related to me. Any ideas how I can find
out. My grandparents have all died...before I was born, so I never met them. My father
doesn't know much about the family history. Do you have any ideas where to start??
Considering I only have my grandparents names and nothing else...I'm not sure where to go.
Anyways...just wanted to say it was cool bringing up all the info with my name there.
Thanks!! Emily earth_angel_1998(at)yahoo.com PS you can use this email or my work email

Regarding the 1851 entries in my last message, I'm sorry to say I did not jot down the
folio numbers. Very remiss of me I know. However, both Ashley and Dunham are quite small
populations and are soon found by wading through the relavent films. (Mine were via the
LDS.) Only yesterday, I extended my Timperley's by one generation ! I found the
christening record of George Yarwood, another of Elizabeth Yarwood (Timperley) children.
It gives me her parents names, i.e. George and Mary Timperley. You might be interested to
know that it was the Bank Street Wesleyan Church in Warrington. This is quite significant
to me as I had been keen to prove the link between the original 1851 census record, where
I found my ggm Elizabeth Yarwood (dau of above Elizabeth) and the above George Jnr. - and
the mar. entry for Parish Church, Warrington. The above christening entry was a confirming
in that it showed William Yarwood as a Wheelwright, which matches the census entry. Also,
despite the census showing George as b. Dunham, the ch. shows William (father) as "of
Thelwall, parish Runcorn". Now Thelwall is only about 5 miles from Dunham, which
incidentally is in
the parish of Bowdon. Regards, Brian Critchley critch(at)rivernet.com.au

My gggm, Elizabeth Timperley, married William Yarwood, 6 Sep 1826. Elizabeth is shown on
1851 census as b. Altrincham, about 1806. Regards, Brian Critchley

[After] my great grandfather Thomas William Garner, auctioneer,
became bankrupt, [he changed his sirname to Timperley]. We are unsure whether the name
change occurred before or after he left the family circa 1907. Family members were as
follows: Thomas William GARNER b:12 Oct.1862 married Elizabeth Ann MCDONNELL(1Oct.1888)
Children: Thomas William, Barbara Elizabeth, Rose Hannah & Frederick Timperley. These
were all GARNERs until circa 1907. I have not come across Timperley as a christian name
before and wonder if Frederick Timperley Garner may have had a different father ~
apparantly he was quite different to his siblings. They lived in Macclesfield at first but
when the father was an Auctioneer they apparantly moved around a lot. I don't suppose this
is of any constructive use to you but it may at least allow you to eliminate them from
your researches. If by some fluke you know of or hear of Thomas William Garner's death I
would be extremely grateful if you could inform me. Good Hunting, Terry Jackson,

Hello, My name is John Edward Timperley, I'm attempting to research my family name.
Presently I came to a dead end .I've got as far as my great-grandfather, John Ernest. I
still don't know for sure where he is burried. I beleive it is St.Georges Cemetary in
Hytton Corleley near Liverpool or perhaps Chorley near Manchester. He was killed in a
mining accident in the summer of 1918. His father may have been George from Manchester who
owned a factory. That is a big maybe. My great grandfather was born circa 1878 and married
Betsy Joyce-Townsend 1880, circa 1899. They had 7 children Ernest 1900, Dolly 1901, Bessie
1902, Thomas died in infancy, Alice, Sahra, JohnErnest 1911, and George Desmond 1918.
[see web page] A few years later Betsy
married Edward Connely and moved to Canada with all there children. I'm not sure if you
are researching the name or not but if not could you direct me to someone who does. I plan
on visiting the Manchester area someday to see a great country and to find my ancestors.
Thank you for your time, John Edward Timperley, Sarnia,Ontario,Canada

Very nice web site. I have an indirect link with the Timperley line. In Manchester on 20
October 1803 my 4X great grandfather married Alice, a widow of Francis Timperley. Francis
Timperley married the Alice 28 Sept. 1799, at Manchester Cathedral. Alice is also listed
as a widow in that marriage record. Francis is listed as the victular of the Shakespeare's
Head Inn. Alice and Francis had a daughter Amelia Timperley born 15 December 1800, Amelia
was raised by her stepfather Job and married a Thomas Pickford 16 May 1820, in Manchester.
Amelia died 07 February 1852, and Alice died 11 March 1848. Any information on Francis
Timperley would be appreciated.

I visited my Aunt Bessie (Timperley) in the nursing home and asked her our family history.
Although at times she seemed to be a little foggy, the information she gave me made sense.
According to her, my great grandfathers name was John Ernest. The families roots started
near Manchester/Lancheshire area of England. John Ernest was a mining contractor (coal)
and moved quite often. He married a lady named Betsy Joyce-Townsend near the mid 1895's. [info. now on web page]. They also had a relative
(Timperley) who was a Station Master in Heidon. However she couldn't recall the man's
name. After reading some data on cemeteries in one of your files, I came across a
Timperley who was buried in Heidon. His name was Thomas Timperley who died in 1884. Could
this be my great grandfather or still my great great grandfather? If not, I bet that he is
a relative. It seems that in my family, forenames are inherited. I find this extremely
interesting. Your web page has been very, very helpful. Thank you once again, John Edward

My name is John Edward Timperley. I didn't know there was a homepage on us until my father
visited it about a year ago. I recently purchased this computer therefore I can visit for
myself as I am very interested in my family roots. Please also note I believe from talking
to some family there's some speculation that perhaps some our family history is from the
Blackpool area of England. I also have family in Alberta ,Canada Children from John E
Timperley. Most of my immediate family have lived in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada area since
the end of W.W.II. I would appreciate any information you may know of my roots, after all
there really isn't many of us if you consider other popular family names. Perhaps there
may even be a connection between you family and mine. I could perhaps get more info. from
my great aunt, Betsy but it may be limited because she is in her mid 90's. I thank you for
you time in reading this and look forward to any correspondence from you.

Could anyone who has information about the Temperleys in Australia help with information
about descendants of Mary Ann Temperley (born Warrington, Lancashire abt 1830) and her
sister Sarah (born Boton, Manchester in 1841). These two were daughters of Thomas
Temperley 1802-1855 and Mary (Barker) Temperley 1801-1869. Thomas and Mary, their eldest
son Erasmus 1822-1855 (my g-g-grandfather), Mary Ann and Sarah arrived Sydney on the ship
"Nabob" on 20 Feb 1842. Another child Thomas 1845-1918 was born later and I know
all his descendants. I believe that Mary Ann married but I have no idea of her husband's
name. Sarah married Frank Martins so I assume I am looking for Martins descendants.
Information is required so that I can complete the family tree and arrange a gathering of
this family in Sydney . If you can help, please contact Graham Wilcox. Email:

I don't know how it is that I had not come across your wonderful web site before, but
while doing a search this morning (looking for a source for Hazel Pryor's book
"Looking back at Timperley"), ... there it was. I am an amateur genealogist
tracing my family back as far as I can go, and currently have established a fairly well
proven line back to Richard ARDERN, Yeoman of Timperley who died as an old man in 1730.
The majority of the family members that I have records of (around 1700), lived, or were
born in Timperley. My own website (which pales alongside of yours), shows my family tree
back to a James and Elizabeth (I have now confirmed James b.1722), but I have two further
generations that I have not shown as I have been too busy to do an update. It is summer
here and am so busy outdoors. Please note that I have a different e-mail address than that
on my web site. My e-mail address is feabea(at)xtra.co.nz I have details of the
ARDERNE family tree as it descended through the ARDERNE of Harden line to ARDERNE of
Timperley and to William d.1584 and his issue, Sybilla who married Brereton as you know,
and an illegitimate son Robert. Robert and his wife Ann were (unusually for that time)
specifically provided for in William's will, some property in Timperley being left to the
couple. At this stage I am daring to speculate that my family are descendants of Robert.
According to my research, a Joshua TIMPERLEY married into the ARDERN family about 1720.
The will of Richard (probated 1730) mentions his son in law Joshua TIMPERLEY. Do you know
who Joshua married ?? Congratulations on having such a fine web site. If I can help you in
anyway, please do not hesitate to contact me.

From "My Massey Family in England", p.131 Timperly- (line

My name is Barbara J.Timperley, I was born in Jasper Alberta Canada in 1956. I was playing
around with this silly machine one day last week when I thought that I would casually put
in my last name and WOW!!! I am absolutly amazed at the amount of information available to
me and others. For years I was embarassed by this seemingly rediculous name, and now feel
very proud to have it attached to me! I don't know where to begin to find out exactly
where I am originating from. However now it seems unimportant. Thank you so much for being
there. Barbara J. Timperley purplepeacock40(at)hotmail.com
