Timperley of Timperley, Cheshire, England |
|
This family tree (shown below) attempts to document at least one origin of a Timperley family. The information used to construct it has come from several sources. All of the sources agree that the family begins on record with a John de Mascy or a John de Tymperlegh (c. 1270) who had a son William. Beyond that, there is some disagreement, as should be expected when dealing with records of such an ancient nature. Since individuals are listed sometimes as de Mascy, sometimes as de Timperley and sometimes as both, it isn't quite clear whether their descendants were know as Timperley or Mascy. This is particularly interesting in the case of John, son of Sir John, who went to Suffolk to live. Was he subsequently known as John of Timperley? Some records indicate that William had a daughter named Jane or Johane who married a Sir Hammond Massy or a Hamond Maysy. This information is from "Timperley of Hintlesham a study of a Suffolk family" and from Arderne Family of Timperley respectively. The latter source also shows that they had a daughter named Ellin Maysy who was co-heir to his estate. This I believe is an error. Apparently, Edward de Mascy's wife Ellen de Mascy was confused with Cecily, daughter of Hamon de Mascy. It is interesting to note that the Pedigree of the Collier family shows that William Timperley had a daughter named Mathilda, who married a Hugh Massy. They in turn, had a daughter named Alice Massey. The Timperley Manor Families document also supports the idea that William had a daughter named Matilda, furthermore it states that she and Hamon de Mascy had four children. I have laid out the Timperley of Timperley family tree below based solely on the documents presented here on this site. If you have more information or a different opinion, I would be happy to hear from you. Timperley of Timperley, Cheshire, EnglandSir John de Mascy de Timperley (circa 1270)
