Family History

William Thomas Postles Timperley was christened in Manchester Cathedral, England in 1807 the ninth child of John and Elizabeth Timperley (nee Postles). He left his post as Curate to the English Ambassador in Beme, Switzerland in 1851 and sailed for the Swan River Colony, Westerm Australia with his sons William Henry 18 and younger brother Frank. The boys mother Elizabeth Bradney (nee Evans) remained in England with her younger children. When in 1854 William Thomas Postles and Frank left for Mauritius, William Henry chose to stay in Western Australia. He worked on properties for a time he before joining the WA police force. After his marriage to Rebecca Prope 'ohn of Bunbury WA in 1851 he continued a career in the public service for which he was later awarded the Imperial Service Award for his contribution. In February 1910 William Henry's son Oughton (at)r moved to Kuken'n WA to begin pioneering bush land. He was accompanied by his wife and two sons Lionel 19 and Cecil 14. They named the property "Hastings" which was maybe a reference to the early Timperley history. In 1923 Lionel married his first cousin Dorothy the youngest daughter of Percy's brother Frederick. Lionel and Dorothy's sons Mervyn and Douglas added further land to the holding. In 1970 Merv, his wife Elma and his three daughters Raema (Kistcha), Shelley (Suckling) and Merril (Mitchinson) moved to live in Applecross, a suburb of Perth. Doug's only son Ian continues to farm the family property, "Hastings".
