Township of Timperley, Cheshire, England |
|
The township of Timperley is roughly bounded by the Timperley and Fairywell Brooks in what is now known as Greater Manchester county, England. The postal address, however, locates Timperley as a suburb of Altrincham, in the county of Cheshire. I believe this discrepancy over the location of Timperley was due to an unpopular county reorganization plan, which the English postal service never adopted! Map of the township of Timperley, Cheshire, England as it was in 1838 The early settlements in Timperley were moated farmsteads. These were located at Timperley Hall, Riddings Hall and possibly Heyes. It is possible that these settlements date to the early Mercian Kingdom of the 8th and 9th centuries when the area was under constant threat and later occupied by the Danes (who were both farmers and pirates).
