Did you know that you can edit your families web page? Once you have a web page on the Timperley Family History and Genealogy Web site, you can edit and update the page yourself. Just follow these simple instructions:

  1. Save your Web Page to a directory on your computer.
    1. From Microsoft Internet Explorer, navigate to your families web page and choose File | Save As from Internet Explorer's menu.
    2. ExplorerWeb.jpg (54878 bytes)

    3. The Save dialog will open and allow you to choose a location to save your web page. Save it wherever you wish but remember the name of the directory where you save your web page, because you will need to open it again from Microsoft Word. I have chosen to save the document to my personal folder, as shown below.
    4. There is no need to change the File name: (it will be different than the one shown below but that is OK). Leave the File type: as HTML File because Internet Explorer knows how to save web pages correctly. Just remember the name and location of your web page.
    5. Press the Save button.

  2. Open your web page from Microsoft Word.
    1. Start Microsoft Word97 (or later).
    2. Choose File | Open from Word's menu. The open dialog will open and should look something like the dialog below.
    3. From Files of type: combo box, in the open dialog choose HTML Document. If you do not have this selection then you need to install the HTML filter for word. Do this now. You must do this before you will be able to continue these steps.
    4. If you do not see your file in the dialog, use the Look in: combo box to select the directory in which you saved your web page.
    5. Select your web page file
    6. click the Open button.

  3. Edit your web page

  4. Notice that your web page will have a white background and will be missing any photos or graphics that show on the web site. This is OK. Just edit the text in the web page as you would normally do for any document you would create in Word.

  5. Save your web page
    1. Choose File | Save from Word's menu bar. Note word should save your file directly, without opening another dialog box. However, Word may notify you that saving the page will lose some formatting. This is OK, so choose Yes.
  6. Mail your web page to the Web master.
    1. Create a mail message and attach your new web page document to the mail message and send it to: webmaster(at)timperley.com. Once the web master receives your web page, it will be included in the very next update! You will be notified on the receipt of the web page information.
