Timperley History at Hintlesham Hall

John Timperley of Sutton bought the main Hintlesham manor in 1454 during the reign of Henry VI. He purchased it from Sir John Fortescue, a famous judge who had held it for the previous six years. Hintlesham manor remained in the Timperley family for the next two hundred and sixty six years, until Henry Timperley III sold it in 1720 to Richard Powys, a Principal Clerk of the Treasury. More information on the Timperleys of Hintlesham, their genealogy and family history can be found on this web site on the Hintlesham family web page.
