It has not been possible to be precise about all the colourings of these arms - owing to the variations in the recoded descriptions given by antiquaries over the years, particularly during the 17th century. All the arms described were at one time exhibited in Hintlesham, mostly in the form of stained glass windows, but, of course, none of the originals exist today.

The family coats of arms with direct connections with the Timperleys are as follows: Pettistree, Bishop?, Clayton, Partridge and Howard. The Massey arms are of particular interest because of their close connections with the Timperley family in Cheshire in the earlier days before the appearance of the Timperley family name in Suffolk, although I have not yet been able to find anything more than the description of the Massey arms as being at one time in Hintlesham church.

Some additional notes on the families are as follows:

Sir Henry D'Oyly, of Pond Hall, Hadleigh, said to haave married Margaret, the widow of William Timperley, and daughter of the Duke of Norfolk.

Rokewoode, Firmin, a kinsman of the Timperleys, married Elizabeth Timperley, daughter of John Timperley, who died in 1558. (Rookewoode - a companion of Tomperley), confessed that they had absented themselves from the Church, and refused to conform, He was committed to the County gaol at Norwich. Rookwoode built Euston Hall, one of the largest houses in Suffolk

Playter, William, of Sotterley Hall, married Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas Timperley.

Greenn, Rooke. of Samford, married Katherine, daughter of Thomas Timperley.

Fuller. In Dec 1595, Nicholas Timperley's wife Anne, and his sisters, Mistress Fuller and Mary were 'detected' of recusancy by Norfolk jurors and were thereupon certified as Papists.

Partridge, Thomas, of Great Finborough, married Dorothy, daughter of Thomas Timperley.

Barney or Berney, Francis, of Needhan, Norfolk, married mary, daughter of Thomas Timperley 1., and resided at Micklefield. (convicted of recusancy in 1595/)

Thursbye or Thursbye, of Bocking married Audrey, daughter of Thomas Timperley.

Bedingfield, Anthony, of Oxborough, married Lucy of Testerton, and Bedingfield were executors of Nicholas Timperley.

Barker, Bestney, Thomas Townshend and Anthony Bedingfeldd, Anne Timperley (died 1664) sister of Nicholas Timperley, the widow of Bestney Barker, ended her days at Colkirk, Norfolk. Brother and sister remained recusants until their deaths (monument at Colkirk).
