William Temperly, Sr. came to the U.S. from Northumberland, England. Heworked the Pennsylvania coal mines and eventually relocated to the leadmining region of New Diggings, Wisconsin. He married Mary Vickers.(Marydied in 1868). (Vickers was born 9/15/1841 and died 10/23/1919).William, Jr. married Grace Bell and Vickers married Sara Bell. (Grace andSarah were sisters and were from Northumberland also). Vickers and Sarahhad at least one child, Ada.

(Three Years)Second Light Artillery.-Col., Thomas S. Mather; Lieut.- Col. William L.Duff; Majs., Charles J. Stolbrand, Frederick A. Starring, AdolphSchwartz, Edwin H. Smith, Rolla Madison, Peter Davidson, John W. Powell,William H. Bolton.
Battery H was organized at Camp Butler and was mustered in Dec. 31, 1861.On Feb. 6, 1862, it moved to Cairo and was stationed at Fort Holt. Onesection was engaged in the siege of Fort Donelson and one section movedto the siege of Fort Pillow, returning to Columbus, Ky. One section movedto Smithland, Ky., Sept. 4, one to Clarksville, where it engaged theenemy under Woodward, and returned to Fort Heiman. On Jan. 1, 1864, 65men reenlisted as veterans and were furloughed. In August the battery wasin action at Canton and Rockcastle ford, Ky, and subsequently was ingarrison at Clarksville until July 15, 1865. It was mustered out at
